Papango (Scaup)
|
As New Zealand's only true diving duck, scaup are most commonly seen on deeper
water wetlands such as lakes. They are one species who have benefited from
the development of hydro lakes. Males are dressed in a glossy black plumage
with a bright yellow eye while females are a more even chocolate colour.
Their superb diving skills and large webbed feet allow them to feed on plants
up to two metres underwater.
