Pukeko
|
While not a member of the waterfowl family the Pukeko is nevertheless one of our
most familiar wetland inhabitants. With its rich blue and sooty black plumage
and its bright red beak and legs, Pukeko are often seen in groups living
around the edges of wetlands where their noisy squawking calls are often
heard during territorial disputes. City dwellers may even see Pukeko grazing
on the edges of motorways.
