Mute Swan
|
With snow white plumage and royal connections in England the Mute Swan is indeed
a regal bird. Introduced to New Zealand in 1866 Mute Swan are the largest
of the world's waterfowl. While not entirely mute the male will hiss to
defend a nest. In the wild their numbers are very low, however, Ducks Unlimited's
"Operation Royal Swan" will ensure these majestic birds remain part of New
Zealand's parks and gardens for the future.
