Canada Geese
|
As truly wild geese, Canada Geese were introduced to the South Island in 1905.
Of all the varieties of Canada Geese it was the Giant Canada Goose that
was liberated here. Traditionally centered on Lake Ellesmere and the Canterbury
high country, geese have now been transferred to the North Island as well.
They are extremely wary of humans, preferring to seek well hidden haunts,
so the sight of a skein of geese flying in V-formation is not easily forgotten.
